An agent acts for the insurer and can only bind a client with the insurer’s acceptance or confirmation.

Legal liability for death and bodily injury of another person including legal defense costs

Premium payments can be made through

  • Mpesa Pay bill number – 501800 – Account Number – Your Car Registration No or policy No.
  • Cash deposits at any of our branches
  • Cheques written in favour of Metropolitan Cannon General Insurance

If It’s not possible to pay the annual premiums in full, you may pay 50% of the premiums, the provider will issue a 1-month policy which is then extended when you complete the payment. But in the event of a loss full premium must be settled for claims process to commence.

Yes, valuation of the vehicle is required to complete the car insurance policy. On your quote for car insurance, we will use the closest known market value of the vehicle and once the cover is placed, we will issue a valuation slip which you can use to get FREE valuation at the appointed valuation outlet.

Immediately it happens either through the Agent / Broker or Metropolitan Cannon General Insurance.

In the event of any claim, you should notify Metropolitan Cannon or your Agent/Broker immediately and provide us with full information as soon as possible.

In the event of a motor accident:

  • Report the Accident to the Police & insurer
  • Insured will be required to complete a claim form and submit it together with the police abstract and a copy of the driving license of the driver at the time of the accident.
  • Vehicle will be taken to the Garage within the Panel/ Metcannon Assessment Center.
  • Assessor will be sent to assess the damage
  • Insured Advised on repairs and excess payable
  • After the vehicle is fixed, a release letter will be issued by the insurer
  • Insured collects repaired vehicle and signs satisfaction note

Insured will be required to complete a claim form and submit it together with the police abstract and a copy of the driving license of the driver at the time of the accident.

It’s important for us to have some excess as this would serve as a form of co-insurance (co- insurance, spreading the risk among multiple parties). With an excess, the insured would tend to be more careful because if a claim occurs, the insured also must pay out of pocket and contribute towards the claim. This is to minimize claim for trivial losses.

This is the amount of loss to be borne/paid by the insured in the event of a claim as stated in the primary policy schedule or insurance contract.

Comprehensive insurance – This includes cover for physical damage, theft or fire of the insured vehicle and includes third party property damages, bodily injuries, and legal liability of the insured.

Third party only (TPO) cover – This covers costs and damages to the third-party property and bodily injuries, it is the minimum cover policy required by the law.

Insurance is divided into corporate/SME and retail.

Under personal insurance, we have Motor Vehicle, Homeowners/Occupier, Personal accident and motorcycle insurance while under corporate, we have Property, Casualty, Engineering, Transport, Accident, Marine, Liability, Financial guarantees and Motor insurance.

The Income Tax Act (cap 470), Section 31 allows for a person who has a life insurance policy to receive a tax relief of 15% of the premium subject to a maximum of Kshs. 5,000 per month or Kshs. 60,000 per year.

Follow the claims process outlined in the insurance policy document which should cover

  • Loss minimization – do not admit fault
  • Timely reporting – note the timelines for reporting
  • Cooperation with investigations and provision of all necessary information
  • Surrender of rights of insured to insurer for purposes of pursuing a claim

Write to instruct broker/agent or to insurance company to cancel policy. This must be done within 30 days of commencement of cover and refunds on pro-rata basis for premium paid

  1. When there isn’t sufficient interest or connection between the person paying the premium and the ones who suffer the consequences of the specified loss

  4. Where there are willful or intentional acts that lead to loss
