A professional is someone who earns their living from performing an activity that requires a certain level of skill or training. Each field is usually governed by professional standards of practice and ethics agreed on and overseen through recognized professional associations. General Liability insurance does not protect your business against claims of professional negligence, or for failure to perform your professional duties satisfactorily, and this is where Professional Indemnity Insurance (eg doctors , engineers, accountants etc. ) comes in, protecting the business and the professional against financial loss from a claim of alleged negligent acts, errors or omissions in the performance of their professional services. Examples include when a lawyer fails to file a suit in court on time, or fails to register an opinion as directed; or an architect or engineer on the other hand makes a mistake in supervising a building or bridge leading to collapse, expensive reworks, or accountants or auditors expressing an erroneous opinion that causes financial losses, injury or damage.
The Professional Indemnity Policy covers awards arising out of court judgments, defense costs, loss of documents, fees and expenses.
This policy protects professionals from legal liability for any acts of negligence they may commit in the course their duty. The policy will provide for the costs of defending any action brought against the insured in their professional capacity.
Under this policy, Metropolitan Cannon will cover the insured against the following:
- Court judgments/awards
- Defense costs
- Fees and expenses
- Loss of documents
